CURRENT EXHIBITION

Many of our Market Gallery exhibitions are assembled through open call, and Layers of the Land has been our most popular to date with submissions from artists across the country. The sheer level of interest and enthusiasm shows that the theme is deeply resonant for artists, especially in Ireland. The land is part of our life and our history and is, or course, deeply embedded in our cultural memory. For artists, it is a frequent and endless source of inspiration.

We chose 20 artists for this exhibition representing a wide variety of responses to the subject. As one would expect, there are many landscape images executed across a wide variety of styles and media. There are artworks which focus on nature and on the wildness of our landscape, and others which delve into the deep history it contains. Some images depict journeys, while others emulate the structure and physicality of our terrain. Some artworks even use the materials of the land itself.

We are delighted to present a diverse selection of artworks, brimming with creativity and stemming from our deeply shared connection with the land.
